Trade publications Door & Window Market Magazine (DWM) and USGlass News Network (USGNN) have published an article that positions the awareness of Title 24 as a “Joint Effort in Fenestration Sectors.” Title 24, part 6, of the California Code of Regulations, addresses energy efficiency in residential and non-residential buildings. Since the updated 2013 Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards went into effect this year, energy codes are stricter and changes are more substantial – especially when it comes to window performance.

Plus, confusion surrounding Title 24’s compliance methods has put many door and window manufacturers in the role of educator.

“Title 24 is one of the most rigid codes in the U.S.,” states the article’s writer, Nick St. Denis. “And given the significance glass and fenestration plays in the conservation of energy, industry manufacturers have had to be proactive in educating architects, builders and dealers in how the updated code affects the industry.”

The article goes on to mention the online tool Western Window Systems developed to help its partners understand Title 24.

“We felt we needed to come out with something that educated the industry — whether it’s the homeowner, architect, dealer, or builder,” says Andrew Darr, vice president of custom sales, in the article. “We wanted to put something in their hands so that anyone reading it could understand what the actual requirements are.”
